Statement on the MK Case
“We are disappointed that the Court of First Instance did not rule in favour of the applicant in the MK case concerning the legal recognition of same-sex relationships in Hong Kong.
“We want to take this opportunity to thank MK and her legal team for fighting in the court. The decision will be appealed, and we have every confidence that marriage equality will be recognized by the courts eventually.
“This judgment does not change the need for the government to start reforming our laws to protect same-sex families. It is simply wrong to see same-sex families facing hardships because of discrimination and unequal treatment in law.
“At Hong Kong Marriage Equality, we are committed to championing and winning marriage equality by working with stakeholders and engaging the wider community.”
